The Metro Line 2 Branch Project won 2nd place in the Infrastructure category of the Cemex Building Award 2023, international edition, which took place on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Mexico City.

The award winners are works that represent excellence, achieving more ambitious spaces and cutting-edge solutions for users and communities, promoting sustainability and social value in each of them.

The ceremony was attended by engineer Tito Serra, from DN Panama, who received the award on behalf of the Line 2 Branch Project. The project had previously won first place in the infrastructure category at the local edition of this award on August 9.

About the awards

The award is today a platform that promotes development, creativity, sustainability and innovation in construction, encouraging the exchange of ideas and solutions between different construction practices around the world. It encourages work with greater ambition to achieve better spaces and better solutions for users and communities, promoting environmental care and social value.

Each year, the competition is open to projects that have been completed during the previous year. There are five categories: Residential Housing, Social Housing, Building, Collective Space and Infrastructure. There are also four Special Awards: Universal Accessibility, Sustainable Construction, Innovation in Construction and Social Value. The winners of the Mexico Edition take part in the International Edition.

Categories

Each work can take part in one or more of the following 5 categories:

Residential Housing: Houses, residences and housing complexes for high and medium-high levels.

Social Housing: Houses, housing complexes for the medium, economic and popular sectors and assisted self-construction.

Buildings: Institutional, educational, commercial, religious, labor, government, industrial, hospital and mixed-use buildings.

Collective space: Spaces that transcend the individual into the collective, that foster interactions between users and promote a sense of community.

Infrastructure: Communication routes, airports, stations, dams, bridges, transportation systems, roads or master plans.
