Baixo Iguaçu

A new dam is appearing in the southeast of Paraná. This week, filling began for the Baixo Iguaçu Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) reservoir, which occupies a 32 square kilometer area. It is the last stage before testing starts with water in the turbines. When completed, the dam will have a water volume of 211 million cubic meters, equivalent to more than 84,000 Olympic swimming pools.

Neoenergia and Copel own the plant, and it is being built by Odebrecht Engineering & Construction. With an investment of BRL 2 billion, it will have the capacity to generate 350.2 MW, enough to supply one million people. It is envisaged that work on the plant will be completed by February, with three turbines in operation.
