French students from INSA visit Transbrasil OECOn February 6, the TransBrasil BRT team received a visit from 31 students on the last year of a civil engineering course at INSA (National Institute for Applied Sciences) in Toulouse, France.

Following a presentation on engineering techniques and methodologies applied at the project, the students visited the central construction site, the pre-cast and pre-stressed beam yard, plant and concrete laboratory. The group travelled to sections of the project by bus and accompanied the start of the mezzanine assembly and Marinha Mercante station footbridge. Close to the future Caju flyover, Members of the Production and Engineering teams explained how the root pile foundations were executed and gave an illustration of what future road closures would be like, in order to construct the flyover. At the end of the visit, the students received an institutional project kit.

According to Diego Berrino, the TransBrasil BRT Administrative and Financial manager, events such as this strengthen the important relationship that already exists between OEC and universities. “Being recognized by young people is very rewarding. This gives us the strength to keep working every day,” confirmed Berrino.

The TransBrasil BRT will cross Avenida Brasil, connecting Deodoro and Caju neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro. The project aims to improve the routines of thousands of people who commute along one of the main roads in Rio de Janeiro on a daily basis.

Fifteen stations and 17 footbridges will be constructed, as well as nine flyovers and two bridges in the 23km section under the TransBrasil Consortium’s responsibility. The corridor will have the capacity to serve more than 500,000 passengers per day.
