Transbrasil - Eduardo PaesLast Saturday (5/3), Mayor Eduardo Paes visited the works on the Deodoro Terminal, one of the three stations that will make up the BRT Transbrasil, the most extensive work in progress in the State, which construction consortium is led by OEC. Paes, who accompanied by the Municipal Transport Secretary, Maína Celidônio, and other authorities, was welcomed by the Contract Manager Rogério Dourado and the construction team.

When concluded, the forecast is that the work will reduce the travel time of those who use the road by 50%. In interviews to local newspapers that covered the visit, the mayor highlighted the benefits that the corridor will bring to the lives of city dwellers. “We know that the work causes inconvenience to the population, but it will bring a lot of benefit to transport not only in the city, but in the entire Metropolitan Region”, said Paes.

Widening of Avenida Brasil

In the last few days, relevant actions were carried out in the contract, setting a new pace for the project. Two cranes with a lifting capacity of up to 220 tons went into action to accommodate four beams of 28 meters in length and 60 tons each, for the widening of Avenida Brasil, in the stretch of the viaduct over the João Paulo road, linking the districts of Barros Filho and Coelho Neto.

In order to carry out the services, it was necessary to interdict three lanes on the central road: two for positioning the cranes, and the third, on rigid pavement, for moving the trucks that carried the beams. With the support of CET-Rio, traffic was temporarily diverted to the opposite direction. The services were carried out during the night, seeking to minimize the impact to users of Avenida Brasil, one of the longest and busiest in the country.

Located on the main connection road between Downtown and the Northern and Western Areas of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the exclusive BRT Transbrasil corridor, one of the largest in the world, currently generates more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. The work route is approximately 27 km long, connecting the Deodoro district to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (Into), comprising 21 works of art, including viaducts and bridges, three terminals and 18 stations, which will allow the displacement of around 820,000 passengers per day, in addition to connecting with the urban trains of Supervia and the BRT Transolímpica and Transcarioca corridors.
