The main entry point to the city of Belém will gain new infrastructure with the renewal work that will be undertaken in coming months. The contract to start these interventions was signed on September 24, at an event attended by the governor, Simão Jatene. Contract manager, André Araújo, and commercial manager, Marcelo Moreira, represented Odebrecht Engineering & Construction (OEC).
The next steps towards getting the machinery into operation are obtaining municipal licenses, which have been requested and are in a clearing process, and the service order.
At 10.8 kilometers in length, the system will provide a public transport service that will serve approximately one million people, passing through municipalities in the vicinity of the BR-316 highway: Belém, Benevides, Santa Bárbara do Pará, Santa Izabel do Pará, Ananindeua and Marituba. Operation of the BR-316 Corridor will be integrated with the Belém Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which is being constructed by the municipal government within the limits of the Pará state capital.
